Toronto Chinese Lantern Festival is a film festival in Ontario, held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Sponsored by Rogers Media Group, the festival is the largest in the Lantern Festival held outside Asia.Lanterns – large lighting and often animated by a steel frame covered in paper and plastic can be as high as 50 feet and 300 feet long.
The Toronto event is based on the history of the Chinese Lantern Festival, held in China in the 15th and the last day of the Lunar New Year celebrations. According to legend, a maid Palace named Lantern want to go home with their families for the Lunar New Year. She told the emperor, Vulcan came to visit her, and told her he was going to destroy the city. She suggested that the emperor should make the city look like it had been burning, fire, God will not disturb them. Emperor Court as a whole and colorful lanterns, firecrackers to imitate a great fire. In the confusion, the Lantern Festival fled home.
Be held from July 19 to October 7, 2007 in Toronto, 40 show concentrated in three periods: the Qin, Tang, Song. Artisans from China to build the display. The festival is held in Ontario, near the waterfront in Toronto, Canada State Fairgrounds. Originally conceived as a one-year event, the success of its first year the Festival in the summer and fall of 2008 and 2009 return.
